  • Backwaters in Kerala are a network of 1500 km of canals both manmade and natural, 38 rivers and 5 big lakes extending from one end of Kerala to the other. 
  • Backwaters is one of the major tourism products of Kerala, being outstanding to the state.

Located in Alleppey backwaters are widely known for famous the boat race held in August. 

This is one of the most striking backwaters as the picturesque here will flee you speechless mainly during the peaceful sunsets.

Vallam kali


Vallam kali is a traditional boat race in Kerala, India. It is a form of canoe racing, and uses paddled war canoes. It is mainly conducted during the season of the harvest festival Onam in spring. Vallam kali includes races of many kinds of paddled longboats and 'snake boats'.

According to the legends, Vallam Kali also marks the day when Lord Krishna brought a boat to the famous Ambalapuzha temple. Vallam Kali is celebrated with a number of festivities and fervor. Hundreds of bright and colorful boats gather at the river with energetic men rowing them.

Boil 3 glasses of water with Cinnamon and piece of Ginger. After boiling  pour the water into bowl keeping the hibiscus. Close and wait for 2 minutes.
