 kernel of a nut-like seed inside the fruit of the nutmeg tree.

 (Myristica fragrance), is an evergreen tropical tree, originally from Indonesia. 


๐ŸŒฟNutmeg’s got its special taste from myristicin, which is a volatile oil. 


๐ŸŒฟMyristicin - found in carrots, celery, parsley, and star anise


๐ŸŒฟSPICE MACE:

The fleshy arils surrounding the nutmeg seed are called spice mace.


๐ŸŒฟNUTMEG BUTTER:

Nutmeg on expression yields about 24 to 30 percent fixed oil called nutmeg butter, or oil of mace.

☘Nutmeg and mace are commonly used spices in foods. It is POSSIBLY UNSAFE to take nutmeg and mace in doses larger than amounts found in foods and for periods. The chemical myristicin possesses a narcotic effect that causes severe side consequences.


☘Long-term use of nutmeg in doses of 120 mg or more daily has been linked to hallucinations or other mental side effects like vision imbalance, nausea


๐ŸŒฟSeeds of nutmeg are used as a spice, but they are also abused because of psychotropic effects described after ingestion of large doses.
